AMG 17

I have just got back from AMG 17 annual gathering. Next year I understand the gathering will be called The Officers Mess. So roll TOM 18.

We have had a great weekend and we all spent a pleasant time playing with, as Ally calls them, wee toy soldiers. The location and excellent company make this yhe highlight of my gaming  year.

In all we had four games to available to play

Firstly Colin Ashton 's Leuthen game using Honours of War rules. Colin was able assisted by the quietly spoken and demure Robbie R.

Graham Cummings put on Falkirk also using Honours of War.

Paul Robinson's WSS game had a  lot if figures on the table, or all painted by Paul, and used  his own rules.

Finally there was Martin Gane's Sands of the Sudan game.

Over the weekend I played in all but Martin Sudan game. Unfortunately had managed to be on the losing side in all three games I played.

Here a few pictures of the action.

Classic Buildings

I have been looking out for some of the classic Triang rubber railway buildings as used by Don Featherstone in War Games.

Well I picked up 3 of them for the princely sum of £ 7.16 from ebay.

Spencer Smith Union infantry advancing post a barn.

I am still on the lookout for a Church.

Hinton Hunt - reinforcements arrive.

Since I started my small Hinton Hunt project I have been contacted and spoken to other HH collectors and wargamers.

In the last couple of weeks I have received a couple of packages containing some spare figures.

The first package included 9 Grenadiers to and will allow me to form a full 24 figure unit.

3 of the figures are Austrians so will need a little conversion and suitable paint job. They will also need broken muskets replaced. The firing figure is a very nice sculpt and will fit in nicely with my original figures.

The second parcel contained some very useful artillery figures.

Firstly 6 Austrians gunners. All I need now is find a suitable artillery piece.

The parcel also contained 6 French Guard artillerymen. These are very nice figures. I particularly like the officer figure (FN180)

And finally a horse. Not any old horse. My Napoleon now has his Marengo.

Thanks guys for your generosity.

Hinton Hunt - French 8th Elite Hussars

I have almost finished my french cavalry squadron representing the elite sdn of the 8th Hussars. They just need second coat of gloss varnish and humbol grass green on the bases.

The figures are from John Cunninghams recast range and have painted up nicely.

I have decided to base my figures on 30 by 30mm mdf bases with 2 cavalry or 4 infantry. I will also base a few infantry on 30 by 15 and 15 by 15 to allow for casualty removal. 2 figures in each cavalry squadron will based singly on 15 by 30.

I have decided to use this basing as it works well if I use Charge having infantry and cavalry on the same frontage.

So having painted Hungarians and Hussars I am going to paint some Minifig 20mm French Infantry. Hopefully these will be easier as the uniforms are less complex.

Le Tondu arrives

My small ebay purchase arrived today. I now have an original Hinton Hunt to command my French forces.

He has been partly painted and should clean up easily. The horse has been painted brown and not as Napoleons Grey Marengo

The mystery is solved. The horse code on the underside of the base is BNH10. A British horse and indeed the horse used to mount Wellington.

So my Napoleon is riding Copenhagen. Perhaps the previous owner modelled this on an alternative history and instead of Napoleon losing Waterloo where his horse, Marengo was captured, he wins and captures Wellingtons horse Copenhagen.

A classic Napoleonic pose shows the horse furniture in detail.

Another image shows more ornate horse furniture.

Anyway I will strip both the horse and paint as Marengo.  A FNH10 horse may turn up in which case I could always remount Le Tondu

20mm Napoleonic - Review

I have been reading about Matt's collection on the Hinton Spieler blog and how he has completed Phase 1 of his collection.

Well it seems like a jolly good idea if I recorded my immediate plans for my classic 20mm collection.

For the allies I plan to initially complete the following units.

Hungarian Infantry bttn. This will be made up of the following figures.

AN22 Line Officer charging * 2 (original)
AN24 Line Infantry charging * 20 (original)
AN22 Drummer * 1 (JC recast)
AN9/29 Standard bearer * 1 (JC recast)

Hungarian Grenadiers

AN33 Grenadier firing * 14 (Original)
AN30 Officer charging * 1 (Original)

I need some extra figures for this unit.

Prussian Infantry (on order all JC recasts)

PN3 Prussian Charging *21
PN5 Prussian Infantry no weapon * 1. This will be used as a standard bearer.
PN12 Guard drummer * 1
PN13 Guard Officer charging * 1

I will convert the drummer and officer figures to line command either by head swap or milliput.

Prussian Dragoons.

PN81 Prussian Dragoon raised sword * 12 (JC recasts). I will try converting a standard bearer and bugler from these figures.

French Old Guard

FN23 Grenadier Firing * 10 (Original)
FN28 Grenadier NCO * 12 (JC recasts)
FN24 Grenadier Standard bearer * 1 (JC recast)
FN27 Grenadier Officer Marching * 1 (Original)

French Light Infantry/Voltigeur

This unit will be formed using my original Minifigs figures bought from BMW Models in Haydons Rd Wimbledon. The links below show images of these figures from the Lazy Limey blog. They are a bit more staid compared to HH figures but, in my opinion, are compatible with HH.

FN25 French Voltigeur Officer * 2

For some reason I painted these as Austrians. A folly of youth no doubt.

FN16 French  Advancing * 20. There are images on lazy limeys blog.

http://lazylimey.blogspot.co.uk/2008/12/alberkenearly-minifig20mm-fn15-line.html?m=1

I will need to add a couple of figures to this unit. I have a Douglas Voltigeur standard bearer I can use for one of them.

French Infantry unit.

I have the basic starter figures to form a cadre for this unit.

FN5 French Infantry charging * 11.  5 of these figures will require repairs for broken muskets/bayonets. Fortunately JC also sells muskets which I will use to make replacements.

French Elite Hussars

FN315  French elite Hussars with swords. * 12 (JC recasts). I will paint 2 squadrons from different regiments to create a composite unit.

French Guard Artillery

Warrior Artillery piece with 5 HH original figures.

I also have some mounted officers including a Minfig 20mm Murat, Blucher (PN6), French Mounted Officer (FN224).  These are JC recasts

Finally no collection would be complete without a Napoleon (FN350). I have just bought one on ebay and it looks to be an original.

I am sure I will procure more in the coming months. I just need to crack on with the painting.

HInton Hunt - French Hussars

I have prepared my next batch of Hinton Hunt figures. This time I am doing a squadron of 6 French Elite Hussars (FN 315) mounted of FNH7. These figures are available from John Cunningham's recast range.

Similiar to original HH figures there is bit of flash to clean off but they do come up rather well.
